Gorging on and in the Gorge...

7pm tonight marks our departure for Red River Gorge. Eight men plus gear and food will fill the borrowed 15-passenger van for around 2 and a half hours. It will be glorious.

We shall return no sooner than Sunday morning. Possibly 2009...we'll see. Oh, who am I kidding? I can't go long without seeing my wife and little girl.

Ultimate Camping calls for Ultimate Trail-Mix. As such, I've created this:

Ultimate Trail Mix

It consists of:

* 1 part roasted/salted sunflower seeds
* 1 part roasted/salted pumpkin seeds
* 1 part salted English walnuts
* 1 part salted macadamias
* 2 parts salted cashews
* 1 part golden raisins
* 1 part 60% dark chocolate
* 1 part white chocolate callets

This trail mix, and other meals, will give us the strength we require for hiking, fishing, fire-building, tent-making, cave-exploring, cigar-smoking, and other MANerisms that can't be mentioned on a blog such as this.

Planned meals thus far include:

Breakfast: Bacon, Omelets, Home Fries (3lbs of bacon for 8 men)

Lunch: Fire-Baked Pocket Pizzas (made from pitas)

Dinner: Upside-down Black Bean Chili
(chili so thick it will hold to a spoon upside-down)

See you in a couple of days!

Oh man I am so glad I'm in full possession of my man card! And if anyone wimps out, more bacon for us!

We tossed together some of those Fire-Baked Pocket Pizzas this summer, they were absolutely delicious. The extra smoke from the campfire just added that extra bit to tip it from "good" to "great".

Happy Birthday, Ryan! Have fun at the Gorge. I wonder if Jeremy is down there this weekend at his place. It would be funny if you just ran into him!

What the heck does Steve mean, 'in full possession of his man card'?

Sounds to me like there will be plenty of scratchin' and bodily noises happenin' out there in the woods! Have a great time and come home game-y.

Dude, that sounds awesome! I was supposed to go camping this week with some buddies that came into town but it didn't work out. I love the whole outdoor/camping/hanging-with-guys thing. You should have an awesome time. Enjoy the trail mix, chili, cigars and other man-stuff.

Now that chili sounds scrumdelicious... I'm with sondrelyn... please pretty please post that recipe :D! Have a fantabulous weekend Ryan... as for the fly on the 'side of the tent', I personally would skip that, as manly noises are wont to be joined with manly smells... **shudder**

You might want to leave a flap open in your tent after consuming the chili! Have a great time!
